Free palliative care training available to all healthcare professionals in response to COVID-19
In these difficult times, it is more important than ever that all health care providers are equipped with the essential skills to provide compassionate, palliative care to patients in need.
For the next three months, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare workers across Canada will have free access to online modules providing enhanced training in palliative care. Pallium Canada, in
collaboration with the Canadian Medical Association, has made six online training modules from the Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care (LEAP) curriculum available to all healthcare providers ensuring
people with diseases like cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, and their families, receive the care they need.
The LEAP curriculum was created in 2000 and regularly updated by a team of experts from across Canada. It includes training modules that give healthcare providers and teams an introduction to the palliative care
approach along with specific knowledge and skills required during the COVID-19 pandemic response.
Healthcare workers interested in LEAP can access six of the curriculum’s online learning modules, for free, until June 30, 2020. These modules, available in English, are self-directed and completed at the learner’s own
pace.
