CPSA has finalized our approach to getting the 2020 cohort of eligible postgraduate trainees into medical practice.
All postgraduate trainees who have successfully completed their postgraduate training (PGT) in 2020 and were eligible to take the RCPSC or the CFPC in the spring can apply for independent practice on the CPSA Provisional Register. There are no practice restrictions for physicians in independent practice on the CPSA Provisional Register.
To apply through this exception, you need:
- a passing grade on the MCCQE1 exam;
- confirmation from your PGME office that you completed their Canadian postgraduate training; and
- a ruling of eligibility to take the RCPSC or the CFPC exam.
Typically, physicians in independent practice on the CPSA Provisional Register need to secure AHS sponsorship and pass an assessment. We are waiving this requirement for this exception. However, you will still have to meet all of CPSA’s other registration requirements. We encourage you to write your certifying exams at the earliest, next available opportunity. Your registration on the CPSA Provisional Register will expire by December 31, 2021.
