During this time, the NHS will be at its most stretched. It is anticipated that NHS staff will be working more hours, and have less time to manage their lives, especially with the upcoming closure of schools. Though currently schools are open for children of individuals deemed ‘key workers’, after school care and other needs of frontline NHS staff are as yet unaddressed by national measures.
National Health Supporters is a directory for known networks of students across the country assisting staff with their needs. The aim is for students to help alleviate pressures on staff including, but not exclusive to: babysitting; grocery shopping; and pet sitting.
This national network aims to act as an overarching organiser for the United Kingdom. Each regional group works individually with the same core aim. On a national level we provide support setting up local groups, guidance and best practice to ensure we work in the most efficient and safe way possible. On an individual level, both staff and students can look up local groups and resources in their area that will help provide support.

Across the nation, medical, nursing and allied healthcare students are responding to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak to enable our NHS staff to continue to go to work and save lives. Healthcare students have had placements cancelled and teaching moved online for the foreseeable future. Not yet qualified to help in a formal capacity, this gives students the time to volunteer their time to support.
