The present and promise of family medicine in undergraduate education: Generalist foundations
This monograph is reflective of the discipline it covers and the multiple tasks that it calls forth in its practitioners. It is both a summary of what is, and an outline of what might be; it is a philosophical perspective and a practical tool to assist those responsible for delivering undergraduate programs in Family Medicine. Its authors are directors of undergraduate programs in a number of the sixteen medical schools in Canada. They are working, thinking, and writing at a pivotal time in the development of Family Medicine in the undergraduate medical curricula in Canada. The monograph seeks to delineate the nature of the opportunities, outline the resources that will be required, and provide a framework in which the development of the discipline can be managed in a thoughtful and efficient manner.
